Rotation Archetype Overview

Arcus Shadowcraft is a variant of the traditional Midrange Shadowcraft deck focused on using low-cost followers with immense value, many of which have powerful last words effects that can be combined with effects that require a sacrifice! Arcus, Ghostly Manager is the main win condition of the deck, and with combinations with Ferry, Spirit Maiden and Gremory, this deck can produce one-turn-kill plays!

Rotation Core Cards

Card
Expansion: Brigade of the Sky - Mini Expansion
Expansion: Brigade of the Sky
Expansion: Brigade of the Sky
Expansion: Omen of the Ten
Expansion: Omen of the Ten
Expansion: Dawnbreak, Nightedge

Gremory: Its enhance cost evolves all allied followers (except self) and then gives them a drawing ability. This card is a great addition to a class that has many followers with good “staying power” and also enhances the burst damage via Ghosts in the end game!

Lady Grey, Deathweaver: An extremely strong silver-rare card that can help build board presence and heal leader defense at the same time! This card can easily stop aggro decks in its track by herself.

Ferry, Spirit Maiden: In combination with Arcus’ ability, this card gives the deck the ability to produce 20+ damage in one turn!

Rulenye, Omen of Silence: A 3-PP follower with amazing stats (3/3) and the ability to slow down the opponent by increasing the costs of spells in the opponent’s hand.

Cerberus, Hound of Hades: This card has great value, becoming three separate followers upon play. In addition, Cerberus’ evolution ability gives all allied followers the Last Words ability to deal 1 damage to a random enemy follower. This feels like just the card Shadowcraft needed for mid-game board control.

Arcus, Ghostly Manager: Undoubtedly the centerpiece of the deck, Arcus gives the leader the ability to turn all 1~3 PP followers into ghosts. Combining these Ghosts (with Storm) with Gremory, Ferry, or Gilnelise can unleash devastating damage potential!

Rotation Alternative Options

Card
Expansion: Dawnbreak, Nightedge
Expansion: Starforged Legends
Expansion: Omen of the Ten

Lord Deathskull: This card is great at maintaining board presence in the early to mid-game. However, be careful of the Skeleton (or Zombie) that comes out while Arcus is active; these will not gain storm.

Ceres of the Night: Ceres is still a great card in mid-game board control, effectively trading with opposing followers while healing the leader every turn.

Orthus, Junior Hellhound: Orthus is able to deal 4 damage to an enemy follower for a relatively cheap Necromancy cost. With the number of relevant followers having 4 defense increasing, this is a great option to deal with them.

Rotation Budget Options

The deck sample above has 6 unique legendaries, which makes this deck quite expensive to build. Arcus is an absolute necessity for the deck, since the deck is built around him. Gremory is also a must-have because this single card provides damage and draw power. Ferry, Rulenye, and Cerberus are all optional cards that strengthen that deck immensely. Finally, Gilnelise is a nice tech option, but is hardly necessary. These cards can be replaced by some of the cards noted above, especially those that contribute to maintaining board control.

Rotation Deck Mulligans

2-PP followers: In general, keeping any 2-PP follower in the mulligan would be fine, with the cards listed below being higher priority:

Belenus: Probably the best 2-PP follower to keep in the mulligan.

Lady Grey, Deathweaver: High priority target when going second.

Purehearted Singer / Fran, Monster Girl: Purehearted Singer is much better when going first. Fran, Monster Girl is usually a keep for a solid third turn play.

Arcus, Ghostly Manager: As there is no way reliable way to search this card out, it may be worth keeping in the mulligan.

Rotation General Gameplan and Tips/Tricks

  • Like any other midrange deck, the early and mid-game should be focused on building and maintaining a strong board so that Arcus can be played safely on turn 7. While keeping many followers is important, do not be afraid to sacrifice some board presence for draw power, especially when Arcus is not in hand.

  • Gremory is not only a finisher, but is extremely powerful in the mid-game as well. It provides more board presence, higher offensive potential, and draw power all for an enhance cost of 6.

  • This deck now has three ways of achieving burst damage with Ghosts: Gremory, Ferry, and Gilnelise. These methods are not mutually exclusive, so it is recommended to play-test a combination of these cards to learn different ways of producing big damage.

  • 25 points of life damage can be achieved on turn 10:

    • Play 2-PP follower (Or Mischievous Spirit) → Turns into 2 Ghosts

    • Play Ferry, Spirit Maiden → Burial Rite 2 cards → 2 Ghosts gain ability and Ferry turns into 2 more Ghosts

    • Use remaining 6-PP to play Gremory → 4 Ghosts evolve → Gremory turns into 1/1 Ghost

    • Now, there are two 3/3 Ghosts that can attack three times, two 3/3 Ghosts that can attack once, and one 1/1 Ghost that can attack once = 25 damage
