Card 1 - A way to take out an early enemy follower or two so Blackened Scripture, a Pinion Prayer, or Moriae Ecomium.
Card 2 - A helpful early midgame follower like Priest of the Cudgel, Servant of Repose, Beastcall Aria, Starchaser Sprite or an amulet like Forbidden Ritual or Death Sentence.
Card 3 - Forgotten Sanctuary or Cocytus Both are vital
You should try and save a Cocytus for turn 9, but feel free to play the others for their accelerated costs of 3 when you can, with the abundant draw effects in this deck you are bound to come across one that will be game-changing.
You will sail to victory with City of Gold making sure your amulets are put into play quickly during early and mid game while various enemy destruction and banish spells/amulets allow you to keep the board clear through mid and late game until you get your Cocytus deck. It's best to put out 2 City of Golds, but it isn't necessary.
The first 3 turns are when you are your most vulnerable with this deck. So it helps to start with either a Pinion Prayer, Moriae Ecomium, or a Blackened Scripture in hand to take out pesky early enemy followers. Make sure of course to just end your turn 2 so that the City of Gold amulet invocation is triggered. and when it comes times to evolve, cards like Priest of the Cudgel, Assault Priest, Zealot of Repose, Beastcall Aria, Forbidden Ritual, or Death Sentence can help you take control of the board until you can play Forgotten Sanctuary turn 5. Don't be afraid to trade your Holy Mage if you need to, this isn't a holy mage deck.
Keep control with Forgotten Sanctuary and destruction/banish spells and amulets. Feel free to use Hollowed Dogma to end your Forgotten Sanctuary countdown early if you are having trouble gaining control. If you took a lot of damage to the face pop out a Whitefang Temple or Servant of Repose. to heal up behind your Barongs. If you are good on health play extra Cocytus cards accelerated, milk draw effects like Starchaser Sprite or Night's Way. You can also use your storm bird amulets to start chipping at the enemy's face.
Late Game: Decide based on your current game and hand on which win condition would work best for you.
- For instance: If you have good board control turn 8, some Hollowed Dogmas in your hand, you can play Lapis, Glorius Seraph and win quickly.
Turn 9: Play Cocytus. and with draw effects and followers with ward like Assault Priest, Forgotten Sanctuary, and Servant of Repose protect yourself until you destroy them with Cocytus cards.
