Q&A

Why can't we buy more than 10 packs at a time?

Pretty annoying at the beginning when you open 38 packs, and have to split some in lots. Imagine when trying to open 50+ packs....

I'm not sure if this is the reason behind it, but let me ask you a tricky question.

Among A and B, which one has higher chance of success?
A. 10 packs open at once draw 1 legendary.
B. 100 packs open at once draw 10 legendaries.

It turns out B has higher chance.
(A has 69.89% and B has 75.76%)
In other words, cygames tried to reduce their loss....

Edit:
In hearthstone, you can only open 1 pack... which is rather ridiculous.

But in HS you can buy as much as 50 packs with gold at once, and the you can open them all (100+ packs i.e.), without needing to buy another 10-batch. And it is still waaaaaay better than 10 a t a time.

I get what you mean. Yes, in hearthstone you buy and open them separately, But in shadowverse, once you buy you immediately open them.
Can you see the difference?

I really can't understand your comparation.

If you open 10 packs at once, you may have the impression that the drop rate is higher than if you open 1 pack till completes 10 packs opened, but that's not true.
That's not how RNG works.

Let's say i buy 300 packs. I want to buy them all at once without returning to the shop every 10 packs. And then open them all without the same returning to the store->buy 10 packs->open them->ad infinitum

I felt weired as well because that doesn't make sense.
But if you work out some mathematics, B definitely higher than A.
(Binomial distribution, using Poisson approximation)

He said, "In other words, cygames tried to reduce their loss....", as if opening more packs is somehow disadvantageous to Cygames, which is of course a dumb thing to say. Yes, the average result is more likely if you open more packs, but exceptionally lucky results are more likely if you open less (You can get three legendaries in a pack, but you won't average three legendaries a pack).

tldr: Buy and open however many packs you wish. Cygames isn't making a loss, and neither are you.

Are there any SV devs or someone else that can confirm this?

It seems like even if you buy 2 packs, or 10, the program still open packs one by one. Even if you press "skip", the program simply bypasses this animation step, but it still opens "cards" in bundles of eight (aka. the rule that every eight card loses the chance to become a bronze rarity card).

AND, as stated in the steam.shadowverse websites, each card in every pack (regardless) has a chance of 1,5% to be a legendary card. So, myth busted?

so how do you open packs ? open one everyday or farm until you get 1000 golds ?

My advice is farm until you get 1000 golds because you open more packs at once.
But I'm a lazy man I usually buy pack once I have 100 golds.

well same here

The events are independent however many packs you open at once doesn't matter.

It's like the difference between flipping a coin once a day for 10 days or waiting 10 days and flipping a coin 10 times you are not more or less likely to get legendaries just because you waited to open 10 packs at once.

Also if you used different numbers e.g. 1 pack and 2 packs for drawing at least 1 legendary and at least 2 legendaries you would get that opening 2 packs and getting at least 2 legendaries is lower this doesn't mean shit

My view/exp of rng. Yes, I believe each time you open a pack is an independent event, meaning every time you open a pack the % of obtaining a legendary remains the same.

But Hearthstone creator says the cards you get is determined at the point in time that you open your pack.

However, Hearthstone did create an algorithm, ensuring that you would obtain at least 1 legendary in the first 10 packs you open. So there is the perception that opening packs may not be an independent event but is affected by your previous events.

However, playing several emulated games and understanding rng. Using saving and reloading, I've discovered a mili-second affects what you get. Therefore I think opening 10 packs at once improves the chance for success rather than opening 1 at a time.
